Latest News About the Vacancy from Isobel Gilbert

Just to keep you informed of what is happening with the search for a new incumbent in the Tove Benefice.

Since Fr. Tony left for Edinburgh the Benefice Profile has been discussed, drafted and amended several times and a final version has been discussed and approved. All the PCCs in the Benefice were required to attend a joint meeting on November 5th to complete the first part of the process. That meeting was chaired by Sue Cutts and all PCCs were quorate thus ensuring it fulfilled our legal obligation.

First we made one or two final amendments to individual words and this was followed by a proposal that the meeting was "in full agreement of the submitted document entitled 'The Tove Benefice Profile' ". There was a seconder and everyone was in favour of the motion. Copies of that document are available in all the churches of the Benefice so please take a look at them. (To avoid massive printing costs there are only limited copies so please do not remove them)

The Benefice Committee had discussed the 'way forward' i.e. how we wished the Crown (who hold the appointment this time) to proceed and recommended to the joint PCCs that we request that the position be advertised, this also was agreed unanimously.

Each PCC had a form to complete and these were collated together, to be sent with a covering letter, the request to advertise and the profile to the Archdeacon for her input. The forms also showed the names of those people elected to be the parish representatives; two from each parish comprising David Linney and Isobel Gilbert – Towcester, Nigel Shepherd and Edward Woods - Greens Norton, Margaret Pickering and Colin Musgrave – Bradden and Linda Anderson and Tim McNeight – Easton Neston.

Archdeacon Christine now has her input where she adds the 'role description' to the document to tie it all together and drafts the advertisement, following this it will be forwarded to the Crown Appointments Secretary and he will then place the advert in the press. A shortlist is prepared from any applicants by the AoN and the Crown representative and those individuals will be invited to attend for interview.

Those interviews will be with a panel comprising the Crown rep, the Bishop (or possibly his representative), the AoN and 1 from each parish (1 of the 2 elected parish reps) and are due to be held in the second week of March 2012.

Which only leaves the decision to be made on who is the best person to join us in this lovely part of South Northamptonshire?
